The Virginia Beach Boardwalk, with its rich history and captivating allure, has long been a cherished destination for locals and tourists alike. Stretching along the beautiful oceanfront, this iconic boardwalk offers endless adventure, relaxation, and enjoyment opportunities.
In this blog, we’ll go over the many vibrant attractions and activities that make the Virginia Beach Boardwalk a must-visit destination.

Find Accessible Play at JT’s Grommet Island Park

At the heart of the Virginia Beach Boardwalk lies JT’s Grommet Island Park. This 15,000-square-foot beach park is an inclusive and accessible playground that provides a delightful experience for children and families of all abilities.

We love any opportunity to highlight accessible options for families, and this park is one of our favorites! The park itself includes poured-in-place surfacing, raised sand tables for sandcastle building at an accessible height, a sensory board for children who are autistic or visually impaired, and a swaying boat. The playground also has sculptural features such as dolphins, a surfboard, and a wave that are all fully accessible for children to pretend to ride the waves and swim with the dolphins.

With its interactive features, wheelchair-friendly equipment, and splash fountain, JT’s Grommet Island Park ensures every child can enjoy a memorable and fun-filled time by the ocean without restrictions.

Visit The King Neptune Statue

Standing tall and majestic at the entrance to Neptune Park, The King Neptune Statue is an iconic sculpture that symbolizes the power and grandeur of the sea. Towering at 34 feet, this noteworthy landmark, created by artist Paul DiPasquale, has become an iconic emblem of Virginia Beach and the Virginia Beach Boardwalk.

Visitors can take a moment to marvel at its magnificent presence and capture stunning photographs against the backdrop of the sparkling ocean – the perfect (and free!) souvenir of a trip or day well spent!

Take A Spin on the Ferris Wheel at the Fun Park

For those looking for a more thrilling experience and a breathtaking view of the Virginia Beach skyline, head to the Fun Park and hop aboard the Ferris Wheel, boasted as the biggest Ferris Wheel in all of Virginia Beach.

As you ascend to the top, you’ll be captivated by the gorgeous panoramic views unfolding before you. The sparkling ocean, golden sands, and bustling boardwalk create an enchanting scene that will leave you with lasting memories.

We recommend going in the evening for some stunning golden-hour sunset views!

Enjoy Fishing From the Pier

If you’re seeking a more tranquil escape amidst the hustle and bustle of the boardwalk, the Virginia Beach Fishing Pier is the perfect spot.

A highlight for anglers of all skill levels, you’ll be able to catch a variety of oceanic fish, including Kingfish, Spanish Mackerel, Bluefish, and more.

And no need to worry about a fishing license, as it’s not required to fish off of the pier!
So, cast your line into the crystal-clear waters, and embrace the serenity of the sea.

Explore Maritime History at the Surf & Rescue Museum

Delve into the rich maritime history of Virginia Beach at the Surf & Rescue Museum. Located along the boardwalk, this captivating museum showcases the courageous tales of coastal rescues and the heroic efforts of lifeguards. You’ll be able to view artifacts, photographs, and interactive exhibits that bring to life the stories of those who have dedicated their lives to saving others along the Virginia Beach shores.

Honoring and preserving the rich history of Virginia’s coastal communities and maritime heritage, this museum is one you don’t want to miss!

Marvel at the Norwegian Lady Statue

As you wander along the Virginia Beach Boardwalk, you’ll encounter a touching tribute to the past.

The Norwegian Lady Statue, overlooking the vast Atlantic Ocean, is a poignant reminder of the lives lost and saved during the tragic shipwreck of the Norwegian sailing vessel “Dictator” in 1891. This beloved landmark symbolizes the enduring bond between Virginia Beach and its sister city, Moss, Norway.

This landmark provides a moment of inner reflection to sit in quiet solitude and remember those lost.

Spot some Dolphins on a Sunset Kayak Tour

Visitors and locals can enjoy the magic of nature on a sunset kayak tour along the Chesapeake Bay.

Guided by experienced professionals, you’ll paddle along the serene waters, feeling the salty air wisp across your face. While gliding through the bay, marvel at the picturesque Cape Henry Lighthouses and the majestic Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel before returning to the First Landing State Park.

And make sure to keep a keen eye out for the playful Atlantic bottlenose dolphins as you go, as they are known to occasionally appear for lucky guests!

This is truly a unique and memorable experience you do not want to miss!
